Advancing Knowledge in Hepatitis: Join the Global Dialogue in 2026
Hepatitis remains one of the most significant global health challenges, affecting millions of people worldwide and contributing to serious complications such as liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. With rapid advancements in diagnosis, treatment, and prevention, the need for continuous learning and collaboration has never been greater.
The 16th
World Gastroenterology, IBD, Hepatology Conference & Exhibition
invites healthcare professionals, researchers, academicians, and industry
experts to explore Track 3: Hepatitis, a dedicated platform to discuss
the latest breakthroughs and ongoing challenges in this critical field. The
conference will take place on December 10–11, 2026, in Kuala Lumpur, a
vibrant hub for global medical exchange.
What
is Hepatitis?
Hepatitis is inflammation (swelling) of the liver. The liver is an important organ that helps in digestion, detoxification, and storing nutrients. When it becomes inflamed, its function is affected.
Hepatitis, particularly viral forms such as Hepatitis B and C, continues
to pose a major burden on healthcare systems worldwide. Despite the
availability of vaccines and antiviral therapies, many cases remain undiagnosed
or untreated. This track aims to address:
- Advances in early detection
and screening strategies
- Innovations in antiviral
therapies and treatment protocols
- Global initiatives for
hepatitis elimination
- The role of public health
policies and vaccination programs
- Emerging research in liver
inflammation and immune response
Types
of Hepatitis
There are mainly 5 types:
- Hepatitis A (HAV)
- Spread
through contaminated food or water
- Usually
short-term (acute)
- Hepatitis B
(HBV)
- Spread
through blood, unprotected sex, or from mother to baby
- Can
be acute or chronic
- Hepatitis C
(HCV)
- Spread
mainly through infected blood
- Often
becomes chronic
- Hepatitis D
(HDV)
- Only
occurs in people already infected with Hepatitis B
- Hepatitis E
(HEV)
- Spread
through contaminated water
- Common in areas with poor sanitation
Participants attending the Hepatitis track will gain valuable insights
through:
- Expert-led keynote sessions from leading hepatologists
- Interactive panel
discussions addressing real-world clinical challenges
- Case studies and research
presentations showcasing cutting-edge findings
- Networking opportunities with global professionals
and organizations
This track is designed to bridge the gap between research and clinical
practice, ensuring attendees leave with practical knowledge they can apply in
their respective fields.
Problems
/ Symptoms
Hepatitis can cause:
- Fatigue
(weakness)
- Jaundice
(yellow skin and eyes)
- Abdominal
pain
- Loss
of appetite
- Nausea
and vomiting
- Dark
urine
- Fever
- Liver damage (in severe cases → cirrhosis or liver failure)
Solutions
/ Treatment
Treatment depends on the type:
- Hepatitis A & E → Usually recover on their own
✔ Rest
✔ Healthy diet
✔ Hydration - Hepatitis B →
✔ Antiviral medications
✔ Regular monitoring - Hepatitis C →
✔ Direct-acting antiviral drugs (can cure most cases) - Severe cases →
✔ Liver transplant may be needed
Who Should Attend?
This conference is ideal for:
- Gastroenterologists
and hepatologists
- Physicians and surgeons
- Medical researchers and
scientists
- Healthcare professionals and
clinicians
- Academic scholars and
students
- Pharmaceutical and biotech
industry experts
